Autumn Tips for Keeping a Cozy House

Autumn, especially in the pacific northwest always brings cold weather that reminds us exactly what part of the country we live in. We have some tips to keep you warm and cozy in your new home:

For starters, there are plenty of things you can actually do around your house to help keep your house warm without actually turning on your heat. High on the list of “things we wish we knew before we were thirty“ is that your ceiling fans can actually change direction with the weather! During the summer, it is standard to have ceiling fans turning counterclockwise in order to bring the warm air settled towards the ground up. In the winter, however, flip that switch (which is what you’ll find on most standard ceiling fans) and let your fan turn clockwise! Making this change will then pull the cool air upwards, switching it out with the warm air and pushing that down.

And while you’re spending your time switching your fan direction, also take some time to check out your furnace filter and give them a good clean to give the air an easier time pushing through. Never clean your filter before? No problem! Refer to this article by Better Homes and Gardens to find out the best way! Stay cozy, Kirkland!
