Three Ways to Slowly Invite Fall Into Your Home
While we’re still in the swing of summer, experiencing a 90-degree day this month, fall isn’t too far away, and folks are eager to invite pumpkin spice and warm accents into their home. If you’re ready to slowly start incorporating the season into your home, here are five ways to do it without going full-on thanksgiving mode.
Warm Up your Living Room with Scented Candles
This is one way to subtly introduce the ambience of fall into your home without placing stark decor on the walls like some would farther into the season. It’s a slow, calm way to get your family, pets, or loved ones who live with you introduced to autumn with a warm welcome. Some classic favorites include this candle from Williams Sonoma, or this one from Bath and Body works. Remember, if you have pets, be sure to opt for soy candles with vegetable wax!
Make a Favorite Recipe with Family
One fabulous way to pass time as many of us have been spending more time at home is to cook! There are countless images and videos of people baking banana bread, sourdough bread, or something called cloud bread during their quarantine. Take this opportunity to cook or bake your favorite autumn recipe and treat yourself to the tastes of the season. One easy weeknight favorite could be these pumpkin muffins or, if you’re not feeling like cooking, be sure to grab the first Pumpkin Spice Latte of the season when Starbucks brings them back on August 25.
Take a Trip to a U-Pick Farm!
This is a classic fall tradition that will only sprout more options as we move later into the year. It’s the perfect way to be socially-distant if you want to go with friends or family, and you’ll enjoy fresh produce that tastes that much better because you picked it! One local favorite here in Washington is Tulip Town up in Skagit Valley. Known for their stunning Tulip festival in the spring, they’ve adapted to year-round events, featuring a u-pick strawberry field for summer, and more events to come this fall! See a full list of u-pick farms in Washington here.
